Black and White SEO The Search Engine Menace

What Is Black and White SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation should be a no brainer ...

The magic ratio is 14.5% of your page copy to contain the right number of words, bold words, links, anchors, anchor text, h1 links etc ...  blah blah blah.  Dozens of places to read this including the webmaster tools of Search Engines.  In the perfect world this is all that is needed.

The Global Link Fest

Link Optimization was originally used to make the first website menus and divert website pages back to the Home Page so that visitors arrived on the front page each time.  Search Engines realized linking had powerful information that could be used for indexing and was incorporated into the algorithm.

But then Link Spamming appeared to rule the web and even though we knew about this 20 years ago, it seems to be at an all time crazy!

How Link Spamming Works.

The Fish and Chips Theory

If you have optimized your page for "Fish and Chips" but 1000 spam pirates link to it as "Drunken Sailor"  then guess what - the site now comes up in the "Drunken Sailor" index.

The even more devious technique is Black Hatters will fire your keyword phrase "Fish and Chips" at 200 other sites 100 times (their keyword target not important) and Bingo those sites will now show up in the index results of "Fish and Chips" above your website, which now sinks to oblivion.

White Hat is when the linking technique is used to push your own website up into an index and if done honestly is correct SEO.

Black Hat is when link spam is used in Cartel behavior, manipulating the search engines to push chosen sites up, victims sites down and trashing other websites completely.
